The 1974 Hell up in Harlem soundtrack had some grooves and this slickster is deadly. Fresh from establishing the Jackson 5 worldwide, Freddie Perren and Fonce Mizell brainstorm this seductive track about a nefarious hit man. Edwin Starr sings, "Easin' in, slick as a pin, he's easin' in/Easin' in, slick as a pin, he's easin' in," in a relaxed (for him) rasp vocal over a tantalizing rhythm. Mysteriously, Motown never issued this snake charmer as a single, a mistake; it would have burned skid marks on the charts. The bongos will have you bouncing against the walls.
